The Concrete Desert Review

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

The Concrete Desert Review is temporarily closed to submissions.

General Guidelines

The Concrete Desert Review publishes one print issue a year. Currently, our production schedule is inconsistent due to changes from our campus COVID-19 closures. We hope to have a more consistent publishing schedule soon.

We are particularly interested in work from marginalized writers.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify us immediately if the work is been accepted elsewhere.

Multiple submissions are not accepted. Please wait to hear back from us on a submission before sending us more work. Multiple submissions will be deleted.

We are currently not accepting reprints. Only previously unpublished work, please. This includes work published on your own personal websites. If you posted it anywhere on the web at any time, we consider it published.

Finally, please do not submit work if you have a low tolerance for delays. While we're committed to producing high-quality issues in a timely manner every year, we are also an undergraduate educational program at a large public university's branch campus, so sometimes delays are beyond our control. Also, our student editors are new every year and just learning the fundamentals of small literary journal production. This results some trial and error in the production process (especially during Covid Era) which can extend production times. We don't want to send an issue to print before it is the best we can make it, so if you are in an incredible hurry to see your work in print, or you are angered by long response times, we may not be the best place to submit your work.

We do, however, greatly appreciate your submissions.
